Harvard, iExperia Boston, and Newport Polo

Still exhausted from the weekend...

I left for Boston early Friday morning to catch up with a friend over lunch. Ricky was visiting Cambridge for the week after coming back from a two-year stay in Brazil. After lunch, we went to Urban Outfitters, walked around Harvard's quad, and checked out an all-natural market on campus.

First time at Harvard: would not have guessed the quad would be this colorful

From Cambridge, I took the T to Downtown Crossing to meet Ryan. We shopped around for a bit--he got dress pants at Macy's, I got a few things at H&M--before heading back to the apartment. The reason why I visited Boston in the first place was to go to iExperia at the House of Blues, so we went to that later in the evening...

I went back to Newport early on Saturday to get back for the Newport Polo finals match in the afternoon. Needless to say, it was an awesome experience seeing a polo match for the first time.

The typical college student spends Sundays going to the gym, doing homework, or (gasp) sleeping in. Instead, I spent my Sunday promoting the honors program, speaking with prospective students and their parents. Now about that homework...

Newport/Narragansett: Dreaming of a Paris Summer

For the past few days, I have been so preoccupied trying to figure out what I am doing this coming summer.

Am I living and working at university? Or am I working and/or interning  in Newport then commuting from home?
Or, should I find an internship in Boston and commute from home?
Or maybe I should take courses at RISD or FIT for fashion and ditch interning for the summer, wait to do so in the fall?

Can my ultimate dream be realized--is it possible for me to study or intern abroad at La Sorbonne in Paris?

There is an all-inclusive program with AIFS Abroad that has courses in French language and a course on French Fashion held at Institut de Langue et de la Culture Francaises (ILCF). It includes excursions, board, and has the option to include airfare with a three-day orientation in London before classes start.

Not going to lie, this winter break has been more agonizing than restful, but I am happy to start planning now.  I have also started scholarship hunting like crazy...

Besides work and repose and daydreams, I plan on trying to catch up on some beauty sleep.

I spent most of Friday updating Facebook and Twitter for work. I used Instagram to make nice profile pictures.

New York: Macaron Cafe and Shopping in SoHo

Every time I go to the city, I go with my dad. While he's in meetings, I hang out with my friend Julia and we go around town shopping. My dad and I come in early in the morning, which is a struggle for Julia because she likes sleeping in late in the afternoon...

We met up at 8:30 this morning.

Since it was so early, I looked up nice places to have breakfast in the area and came across Macaron Cafe on Third Avenue--we absolutely fell in love once we found it. I ordered a pain au chocolat and Provence green tea and Julia ordered a crepe. After a few hours of catching up, we decided to split an order of six macarons for $14, $7 for each of us.

We ordered and Nutella, Lychee Rose, Matcha Green Tea, Passion Fruit, two Honey Lavender. I would have to say Honey Lavender and Lychee Rose were my favorites, but there are so many other macaron flavors to try in the future.

After leaving Macaron Cafe, we headed down to SoHo for some shopping. We went to the MoMa gift shop, C. Wonder, Madewell, Scoop NYC, H&M and TopShop. Julia found a cute cobalt dress at TopShop and I scoured the sales rack at H&M for a great bargain: a moto-style sweater jacket for $20 and a large grey flounce scarf for $7.

I'll be back, SoHo!

Naturally, a visit to the city is never complete without a wrap-up of the day over a short White Mocha at Starbucks. A perfect end to a perfect day with a friend.
