Egg & Dart

I went to Egg & Dart in downtown Newport to check out the latest art installations by one of the owners, Chris Wyllie.

A space that can only be described as "a Pinterest board come to life," Egg & Dart is an art gallery and retail store that could easily be mistaken for a chic place in SoHo. The gallery relocated to America's Cup Avenue by Bowen's Wharf from its original location on Bellevue Avenue, but it has settled nicely near other downtown art galleries, such as Onne van der Wal Photography, Sheldon Fine Art, Isherwood Gallery, and Harbor Fine Art.

While I was checking out the store, I decided to grab a few things for my friend Cara's upcoming birthday celebration in New York City. Whether you're looking for the perfect gift for your hostess or your best friend, Egg & Dart is the go-to place that fits practical needs for a tasteful lifestyle.

Egg & Dart is a member of the Newport Gallery Organization, which is dedicated to raising awareness of local art in historic downtown Newport. On the second Thursday of each month, members of the Newport Gallery Organization participate in Gallery Night.  View all participating art galleries on the Newport Gallery Organization website.

The Newport Gallery Organization and Egg & Dart

With the fall semester wrapping up, I ended my internship with the Newport Gallery Organization, a small non-profit dedicated to promoting fine arts and culture in Newport, R.I. There are 25 working artists/gallery owners in downtown Newport and Middletown who participate in the Newport Gallery Organization. Because each one of the galleries has a distinct style and variety of art, there is something for everyone to appreciate and enjoy.

I do appreciate the classic-inspired art, contemporary art, which is inspired by modern sensibilities, is what fascinates me the most.

Egg & Dart on 136 Bellevue Avenue is one of my favorite galleries in Newport. I highly encourage visiting the gallery before the end of the month--Egg and Dart will be closed through the spring while it changes locations elsewhere in Newport.

Fact: Promoting the arts and cultural goods serves as a major economic driver for a community.

While interning at the Newport Gallery Organization, I learned more about how small businesses and non-profits operate. There are a lot of obstacles these organizations face in comparison to corporate, for-profit business, but smaller organizations tend to be driven by a more passionate and more authentic philosophy. I am extremely grateful to have worked with many hard-working, creative individuals and I hope to stay involved and aware of the arts community in Newport.

NEHC, Midtown Oyster Bar, and Newport Gallery Night

Last weekend, I finally had time to check out the New England Harbour Club downtown. The big caveat about NEHC is that they carry Topshop and Topman--I wrote about it in the latest online edition of the Mosaic, the university paper.
Newport Life Magazine hosted their launch for the Newport Wedding magazine on Tuesday at the Midtown Oyster Bar. It was probably one of the best networking events I have attended in Newport--it doesn't hurt that Midtown also has one of the best views of the sunset...

The Newport Gallery Organization holds Gallery Night the second Thursday of every month. October Gallery Night (last night) was the last walking tour for the year. Walking around Newport in the colder months is, needless to say, does not make for the most conducive, pleasurable experience.

Since I visited the art galleries on Bellevue for September Gallery Night, I stopped by the Ball & Claw on America's Cup Avenue and Blink Gallery on Spring Street.

I really hope to catch up on Mad Men over the long weekend and do nothing. Unfortunately, that's probably not going to happen... #WorkaholicProblems
