My Paris Dream by Kate Betts

If you're a Francophile and you keep a mini-collection of contemporary books on Parisian journeys, add My Paris Dream to the shelf.

Betts, an award-winning magazine editor and author, shares her coming-of-age story of living and working in Paris, France shortly after graduating from college. Her anecdotes finding her own way through the city and industry are absolutely fascinating—one story about Christian Louboutin is a favorite.

While reading Betts's story, I can't help but be slightly envious of her background (Princeton) and ability to pursue such an illustrious career in the City of Light (Fairchild Publications).

With that being said, it's clear that she worked hard for it and getting there wasn't a piece of cake—building her professional credibility, navigating cultural differences and dealing with the loneliness of living abroad takes an extraordinary level of concerted effort.

My Paris Dream is the perfect inspirational story to move and motivate its readers.

Reasons to Love September

It's pretty simple.

Labor Day weekend, aka the best long weekend to laze by the beach

New York Fashion Week, aka the start of Fashion Month

London Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week

All of the other Fashion Weeks and festivals happening during Fashion Month

Poring through the September issues because you were too busy sitting by the beach when you first received them in mid-August

Having Earth, Wind & Fire's "September" on repeat becomes more acceptable than usual
Denim

Your work focus starts to come back after a long summer of parties and prosecco

Wearing cozy sweaters early in the morning and late at night

Season for apple picking, fresh cut flowers and pumpkins

Fall solstice

It's still warm weather, which means you can still comfortably the great outdoors in Bryant Park without a sweater in the afternoon...

Mademoiselle C

Add Carine Roitfeld to your list of must-know fashion influencers.

I'm embarrassed that I haven't looked into Roitfeld and her influence in the industry sooner—Mademoiselle C only touches the surface of her impact. After 10 years at French Vogue, Carine is now running her own magazine, CR Fashion Book. The first Men's CR Book will be released in September.

A multitude of other fashion industry giants appear in the film, which makes Mademoiselle C even more fun, but the most fascinating thing is seeing Roitfeld at work. The documentary isn't just about her latest venture—it's about living in style and achieving success doing the things that you love.
