Paris: The Novel will be a story I will continue to treasure alongside my other favorite novels.
Rutherfurd's latest historical fiction artfully blends character with France's past to create, as Bookreporter put it best, a "tour de force."
Rutherfurd transports the reader back and forth between five different families over various periods in history, including the construction of the Eiffel Tower,World War II, La Belle Epoque and, of course, the French Revolution. Reading "Paris" offers an immersion into a culture so many people would long to see for themselves--it's almost as if Rutherfurd has the power to slip through time and share the all of the sights, sounds, and sensations of his Parisian journey.
I strongly recommend enjoying "Paris" with a cup of tea and a few macarons.
