Find of the Week | 40

Because effort is sexy

I had an hour to find a graphic tank top or t-shirt that was either champagne-related or incredibly nautical for a date the following evening. I quickly circled the Danbury Fair Mall several times before it closed—walked in and out of ten stores—only to choose a tank top that's completely unrelated to bubbly.

After all of hustle, I ended up wearing the long, white knit cardigan I bought somewhat impulsively during my search. It's just as well I didn't wear the tank top on a date, but it's still cute to have around.

And who needs an airplane when you can watch the sunset on a yacht...

Narragansett/Newport: Back to Work and All on the Line

Going back to work was not a challenge. In fact, I was happy to get back into a routine--wake up, get dressed, do my "outfit of the day" Instagram photo, and grab a Starbucks before going to the Pell Center. I am working on a project that will hopefully be done before school starts, so it's like I'm already starting off the semester!

After browsing Netflix on my tablet, I discovered the second season of All on the Line with Joe Zee was uploaded. I have already breezed through half of the season--it is six episodes in all--but I wish there were more. The last episode features Joe helping Nicole Miller revamp her line for New York Fashion Week and I cannot wait to see it.

Christmas 2012

Merry Christmas--we made it.

I am happy to say Santa spoiled me once again, but for the first time in a long while, not so much with clothes. My parents did a great job surprising me this year and I am all the more grateful for it. Here were some of the gifts under the tree:

Dell XPS 10 Tablet--I really did not see this coming. This will be so great to read The New York Times in the morning with coffee, bring with me to class or do interviews. All I need is a case and I'm good to go.

Greylin Ivory Sequin Embellished Marcela Tank Top available at Une Minette--Out of the blue, I was able to see my boyfriend Christmas day and we were able to exchange gifts--as you can guess, this is my Christmas gift from him. I can't wait to dress it up, down, and wear it all of the time with a cardigan.

It has been a different Christmas this year since Theodora passed, but we will always keep her in our thoughts. Because of her, we have learned to make time for what matters and cherish it.

Now it's time to try to take a positive step forward towards the New Year as we reflect and remember on 2012...

Wilton/Narragansett: Last, Last Minute Prep for the Holidays

My boyfriend and I did not end up going to New York City on Friday--there was a terrible storm in the morning. We could have gone later, but if we waited through the storm and went in the afternoon, being in the city days before Christmas would be crazy.

Instead, my boyfriend and I went to the mall and I unloaded my disappointment on some retail therapy at Forever 21.

Black Ankle Boots, $34.40

Black Lace Dress with Long Sleeves, $15.50 (no longer available on the website)

Yesterday, my boyfriend took me to breakfast at Orem's before my family and I went back to Rhode Island. He also took me to Starbucks and helped me run a few errands for my family, including picking up a Christmas wreath--he is an absolute saint.

Narragansett/Wilton: Movies, Chowder and Wisdom Teeth Surgery

This past weekend, my eldest brother came down for the weekend to visit. On Saturday, we saw The Campaign (Will Ferrell, Zach Galfianakis) and ate lunch at Aunt Carrie's in Galilee. The next morning, my brother's train was early in the morning, but we had a nice farewell breakfast at Phil's before he left.

Monday, nothing special happened--just grocery shopping.

I got all four of my impacted wisdom teeth out yesterday. To be honest, I was not nervous before the surgery at all. Most people--including my doctor--suggested I have the procedure under an IV, nitrous (laughing gas), and local anesthesia, I originally wanted to opt for only the local anesthesia.

Before entering the surgery, my parents and I decided I would start with nitrous and anesthesia, so that way I could upgrade to IV at any point.

I was awake for most of the surgery, hearing the drill and the cracking, feeling the pressure as the oral surgeon described beforehand. The typical wisdom teeth removal takes 50 minutes--I was in there for an hour and twenty minutes. The scariest thing during the surgery had to be the high dose of nitrous they gave me initially, but after toning it up and down as needed, everything went well.

I must admit that three of my "concerns" during the surgery were vain and of no consequence:

  1. "I hope no spit gets on my outfit."
  2. "Can't wait to get the Burt's Bees lip balm after this is over."
  3. "I still want to read The September Issue of Vogue." (no, I still haven't found it)

Can you say #fashiongirlproblems ?

The plan for the rest of the week is to sit on the couch, watch Netflix, finish reading Little Bee, Project Runway, and eat plenty of Robeks smoothies.
